A great place to lay your head
Great company, fantastic food and comfortable rooms all on the slopes of Niseko
Niseko Backcountry Lodge is Niseko's true powder skiing lodge. We pride ourselves on providing quality, affordable, comfortable and friendly accommodation in the best slopeside location of the Niseko backcountry area.

Our guests tend to be experienced skiers and boarders who travel to Japan to ride powder away from the crowds. They want their own powder, their own unique experience, and to talk with like-minded adventurous souls at the end of the day. They don't care for the hustle and bustle of the crowded base areas of Hirafu, Niseko Village and Annupuri.

Most guests (and locals) believe Moiwa is the best location in the Niseko area. Unlike the heavily populated bases scattered across Niseko, we have powder outside our door that remains untracked for days after a snowfall. But if you want to access the long runs of all those areas, we will take you there in our free 3-minute shuttle.

The lodge has undergone extensive renovations this summer, with new common areas, remodelled rooms, new mattresses, beds and bedding in all rooms, and plenty more.

Our staff are as excited to be there in Moiwa as you, with many returning year after year after they fall in love with Moiwa and Japan. They want you to share that great experience. We have Niseko guides who live and work in the lodge year round, who are happy to share their knowledge on the area with you.

We're confident you will love Moiwa too!

Our staff and helpers are a great fun mix of Japanese and western guys and girls who love the snow as much as you do. They are here to help your stay be as fulfilling as you want it to be!

An amazing cook, immaculately organised, and constantly smiling, she will organise all the bits and pieces that take the hassle out of your stay.
Dirk Nannes - Owner
Former World Cup mogul skier and international cricketer, Dirk bought Niseko Backcountry Lodge in 2017 to compliment the already successful Moiwa Lodge. It's more than likely that Dirk will handle your booking enquiries and book your stay.
Naoto Seto
Naoto Seto
Naoto is one of Niseko's most respected guides, and operates his own guiding company from Moiwa Lodge. A former competitive extreme skier, he knows absolutely everything about Niseko and the surrounding resorts.
Erin Nannes

Koji Kashiwaya
A Sapporo local, Koji has been guiding in the Niseko area for years. Koji is a friendly young guy, speaks fluent english, and helps run the bar inside the lodge. He's a great resource to help you plan your next day!
Thomas Johansson
Thomas Johansson

Thomas has stayed as a guest in the lodge for many years, and has made everyone feel welcome during their stay. A Swedish national, he has worked for many years in the snowfields, but returns to Moiwa for the love.

We're taking bookings for the 2023-2024 season.
